Albert's 9th Birthday.

It is hard to believe that Albert is already 9. Only one more year until I have 2 kids in the double digits. Oh my how time flies by. I think he has enjoyed his day. We spent the day at home but we did what he wanted to do. He spent most of the day playing the video game I got for him and Sarah. I got them a game for doing so well in school. He also got a glow in the dark themed science kit. We did a few experiments in there today also. Although his dad wasn't here he was able to join in through the magic of technology. He watched Albert open his gifts and sang happy birthday.

 The first 3 pictures are actually suppose to be the last 3 but I can't figure out how to get them down there. So we'll start at the end. LOL Ok so I found these neat balloons at the store the other day and thought Albert would love them. They have a little light in them so they 'glow'. The picture doesn't do them justice because they were pretty neat. This first picture is taken in the living room with the lights off and no flash. You can kind of see the lights at the top of the balloons.

 This is how we ended the night! We watched Albert's new movie. :) What a blessing these 4 little angels are! I know it was Albert's day but I think we all had a good day just hanging out at home doing things together.

 Ok so to go back to the beginning. (No andrew and Katey do not wear clothes very often. I know you were wondering by now. LOL) See here in the picture you can see poor green balloon brother. :( Also Andrew with his favorite color balloon.

 This is the movie he got. It is Wreck it Ralph. It was a good movie.

 He got a football. He has been wanting a football ever since he lost his at the mardi gras parade earlier this year.

 One of the experiments we did was to make a bouncy ball. Sorry I forgot to before pictures. It started out as looking kind of like ummmm course sand or salt. This is after Albert took the first side of the ball mold off.

 He's taking the other half of the mold off. 

 And like before these are out of order. This is Albert watching the bouncy ball mixture soak in water. We poured the bouncy ball mix into the mold and then put the mold into the water. The water got into the mold through tiny holes in the sides. The mixture soaked up the water and formed a ball. He was completely amazed. Even cooler it glows in the dark.

So then the next was expanding jelly balls. Well ok we actually started this first but it took an hour to sit so we did the bouncy while waiting on the jelly balls. Yes I know this picture is in here twice but it goes with the story. So this time focus on the pan with the test tube type things. In there we have the expanding jelly balls. They started out as about a tablespoon of tiny little round things. We added them to the water that has flourscent ink in one side and just water on the other. We wanted to compare.

But they ended up expanding to much to stay in the little test tube thing. So we dumped them all in a bowl and added a bit more ink. Here you can see the expanding balls sitting in the water.

 And here's the final product. They sucked up all the water. These little things bounce like crazy. And they felt pretty weird when you stuck your hand in them. Guess we used to much ink because we ended up with a bunch of ink on the outside of them. 

 So we got orange hands. Albert was completely fascinated that his hand was purple under the black light where there wasn't any orange ink.

 Yep he's a silly boy. Only on his birthday is he allowed to do this. 

All in all I think he had a pretty good birthday. There are lots of things I forgot to take pictures of like him opening his cards and the experiments before they started but you get the idea anyway.
